Senior Kindergarten
The “Senior Kindergarten” program is designed to prepare children for a successful entry into grade one. This is accomplished through a rich and diverse curriculum which emphasizes English Language Arts, Mathematics, Community and Environmental Awareness, Personal and Social Responsibility, Physical Skills and Well-being and Creative and Cultural Expression.
Calgary Preparatory School recognizes the importance of creative arts in the development of young children. Our kindergarten children will experience activities such as crafts, painting, music, movement, rhythm band and creative drama. They will also be introduced to oral French and a weekly computer program. Educational field trips and special classroom visitors are an important part of this program.
Children participate in a weekly Home Reading program. We believe in blending both phonics and whole language to create a well-rounded early literacy environment.
We follow Alberta Learning’s philosophy that Kindergarten provides a foundation for later success and helps to promote a positive attitude toward lifelong learning.
